To celebrate 175 years of the Furness Line, the Festival of Transport will host two guided bus tours to Roa Island on Saturday 17th July, with the first tour at 11am and the second at 2pm.

The tours will be guided by local historian John Murphy who will provide information about the Furness Line and how it brought about the growth of Barrow in Furness. The tour will focus on the history of the Piel Line and how the railway linked with Roa Island to service Barrow in Furness.

The tour itself will run on a classic open top bus from the Town Hall (Bus Stop outside The Mall) to Roa Island via the causeway. The tours will take approximately 1 hour, with a 15-20 minute journey each way and time to explore Roa Island and enjoy an ice cream or quick refreshments in the village.

The tour will appeal to bus, train and historical enthusiasts and with the promise of beautiful views across Morecambe Bay and an ice cream in the stunning surroundings of Roa Island we expect the tours to fill up quickly. Due to COVID restrictions the buses can take a maximum of 68 passengers per tour, so book your FREE tickets now to avoid disappointment.
